Power Generation, Transmission & Distribution 2025
One of the most important regulatory issues in Brazil''s 2025 Agenda is the restriction of solar and wind plant energy due to the lack of capacity of the transmission systems and the supply of
Grid connection queues in Brazil are offering new opportunities for energy storage and hybrid systems and opening new energy business models. Renewable energy companies are adding solar and batteries to their utility-scale wind power sites to use existing power transmission capacity.
The Brazilian electricity model is fully deregulated, which allows generators to sell all of their "assured energy" via freely negotiated contracts with consumers above 3 MW or via energy auctions administered by CCEE (see energy auctions below). Under this model, distributors are required to contract 100% of their expected demand.
An exergoeconomic assessment accounting for the total and non-renewable unit exergy costs and specific CO 2 emissions of Brazilian electricity is performed by Flórez-Orrego et al. (2014), comprising thermal, nuclear, hydro, wind farms and biomass-fired power plants.
Brazil has a generation system with proven capacity of more than 150 GW, with most of the energy coming from hydro, due to Brazil's abundance of powerful rivers. The Brazilian hydroelectric potential is estimated at 172 GW, of which more than 60% has been developed.
