Solar power in Finland
Solar power in Finland is contributing to the transition towards low-emission energy production. Technological development, falling costs and climate goals have together accelerated
Water TTESs found in Finland are listed in Table 7. The total storage capacity of the TTES in operation is about 11.4 GWh, and the storage capacity of the TTES under planning is about 4.2 GWh. Table 7. Water tank thermal energy storages in Finland. The Pori TTES will be used for both heat and cold storage.
The total energy storage capacity of the virtual power plant will be 150 MWh, and the batteries have been approved to participate in the aFRR markets. Table 6. List of utility-scale battery energy storages systems in Finland.
Examples of larger GWh-scale borehole thermal energy storages built in Finland include one built at a logistics center in Sipoo and an underground parking lot in Turku. Normally, the depth of the boreholes for ground-source heating and in borehole thermal energy storages is a few hundred meters at most.
In 2022, the installed capacity of mostly small-scale grid-connected PV installations increased to 395 MW from 288 MW in the previous year, yielding an annual growth rate of 37 %.
